Are you eager to get in the Christmas spirit a little earlier this year?

Winter brings with it a special kind of enchantment — the glittering morning frosts, the still, chilly nights, and the delightful scents of cinnamon and fresh pine filling the air.

As festive music fills the streets, shoppers scurry about grasping bags brimming with gifts, and coffee and cake dates give way to mulled wine and mince pies, you can’t help but be swept up in the magic that December brings…

In this blog, we’re sharing our favourite festive activities to inspire you to get in the Christmas spirit, from late-night ice skating to milling about the markets:

Get in the Christmas Spirit at Rutland Hall Hotel

At Rutland Hall, we adore the festive season. So much so, that we start planning months in advance, to ensure we create the perfect winter wonderland for our guests to enjoy during the festive period.

We deck Rutland Hall with boughs of holly, taste-test the mulled wine to make sure it’s just right, and even have a word with Santa about bringing the snow…

To truly immerse yourself in the festive spirit, why not make Rutland Hall Hotel your home-away-from-home this Christmas?

Wake up in a luxurious bed to views of Rutland Water, glistening with the early morning frost, for a magical start to your festivities.

Indulge in a hearty breakfast in Blossoms, before heading out to explore all that Rutland has to offer throughout December.

Whether it’s a one-night getaway to escape the pre-Christmas rush, or a 3-night stay to celebrate the main event with your loved ones, Rutland Hall Hotel promises a magical Christmas like no other…

How to Get in the Christmas Spirit: Explore the Christmas Markets

Rutland is known for its charming market towns and, during the Christmas season, Uppingham, Oakham and Stamford come alive with festive cheer.

Meander through the market stalls, laden with festive sweet treats, handmade gifts, and ornate decorations.

Enjoy a cup of mulled wine, or spiced hot chocolate, as you step through the streets under a vast umbrella of twinkling lights.

At Rutland Hall Hotel, we’re also hosting our very own Christmas market on 3rd December, where lots of local businesses will be gathering in the warmth of our events space to showcase their festive offerings.

From food and drink to gifts and decorations, you’ll find everything you need to kick-start your Christmas.

Take Part in a Wreath-Making Class at Rutland Hall Hotel

To get in the Christmas spirit, why not attend one of our wreath-making workshops?

A local florist will bring all you need to create a show-stopping, festive arrangement for your front door.

Enjoy a warming mulled wine and unleash your creativity; you can use red berries, holly, pine cones, mistletoe and ribbons to decorate your masterpiece and welcome the start of the festive season.

Taking place on the 5th and 6th December, these workshops have limited availability, and must be booked in advance; email a member of our team to do so!

Enjoy an Evening of Ice Skating

Embrace the magic of Christmas by donning your skates and gliding atop the glassy surface of Peterborough’s very own ice rink.

Approximately a 30-minute drive from our resort, Cathedral Square transforms into a winter wonderland, where you can skate to your heart’s content under the starry skies.

Layer up and share this enchanting experience with your family, friends, or spouse for a truly magical evening.

Indulge in a Festive Afternoon Tea Here at Rutland Hall Hotel

Certain to be a highlight of your Christmas retreat, our festive afternoon tea offers a seasonal twist on the traditional delight.

Capturing the flavours of Christmas, you’ll find hints of cinnamon, apricot, and clementine throughout — as well as sandwiches filled with turkey, brie, and honey-roast ham.

Blossoms will be adorned with glittering lights and festive decor, creating a cosy, magical atmosphere for your festive afternoon tea…

Take the Stress Out of Your Christmas Shopping

At Rutland Hall, we understand the stresses that come with planning the perfect Christmas. With so many events and activities, while trying to manage everyday life, too, it can feel overwhelming thinking about Christmas shopping.

Get in the Christmas Spirit by Attending a Local Carol Service

Joining a carol service is a heartwarming way to get in the Christmas spirit, and involved in a local community event.

Whether it’s in the echoing walls of a beautiful church, the warmth of a community centre, or out in the frosty air around a Christmas tree, there are plenty of options for enjoying traditional carols.

The Uppingham carol service will take place on 7th December this year, with Morris dancers, festive food stalls, and the Christmas lights switch on!
