Are you looking for inspiration for good new year’s resolutions, and tips on how to stick to them?

The start of a new year is often associated with new beginnings. Many people see this as a fresh start, and so set themselves resolutions to help change their lifestyle.

For many though, these resolutions can often be forgotten about early on; you might find yourself too busy or demotivated to carry on.

This week, we’re sharing our tips on how you can set yourself good new year’s resolutions, and continue them throughout the year.

Follow a Well-Known Plan, Such as Veganuary

Veganuary is the term coined for those who usually eat meat, but give it up for one month in the new year.

Cutting down on your meat consumption can have a variety of health benefits. Reducing your red meat intake, for example, can reduce pressure on your heart. You may not want to go vegan full-time, but Veganuary can be a fun introduction to a plant-based diet.

A plant-based diet is also beneficial for the planet, as it reduces the effects of farming and food distribution on the environment.

Veganuary is a well-known initiative that has gained popularity in recent years, and so you’ll likely have a community of people doing it alongside you. This can help you to stay accountable, and also give you meal ideas.

Once you’ve completed your month, you may even want to consider continuing eating vegan meals a couple of days a week going forward. This means you’ll continue playing your part for the planet, and for your own health benefits too.

Good New Year’s Resolutions: Choosing to Exercise More

Exercise is a great choice for your new year’s resolutions. Many people indulge in delicious foods over Christmas, and so setting exercise goals in January can help you to detox.

Having a good exercise routine helps you feel good about yourself and improves your mental and physical wellbeing. Often though, it can be tricky to balance with everyday life.

To ensure success, it’s important to make it a part of your everyday routine. Incorporate movement into your routine by setting aside 15 minutes to stretch before brushing your teeth, or 30 minutes before bed to practise pilates.

Why not find yourself an exercise partner so you can help to encourage and motivate each other? This can help you to stay accountable. You could meet a few times a week for a run, swim or gym session. Make it fun and avoid putting too much pressure on your ‘end goal’ – this can help you to make good progress and keep going with it.

Good New Year’s Resolutions: Work on Your Mental Health

Good new year’s resolutions aren’t always about setting yourself specific targets. Sometimes, making small changes to your everyday life to improve your well-being is the best way to succeed.

Working on your mental health is a broad statement, but it’s filled with so many possibilities. You could practise self-care, do yoga, spend more time in nature, eat more nutritious foods, talk to a therapist or practise meditation.

Why not buy a journal where you can make plans for each day of the year to help you prepare and keep going?

You can also buy mindfulness cards that will help you to come up with great activities every day. You don’t always need to set aside specific time to practise mindfulness; the cards often offer small reminders – for example, to smell and appreciate your coffee before you drink it.

Mindfulness helps you stay grounded and focus on the present, whilst letting go of the small things that ultimately don’t matter.
